Paid Time Off (PTO) Is Getting Creative
PTO = Paid Time Off
It seems like it would be very clear cut, this is time off where you get paid. However, companies today are getting creative with PTO Benefits for their employees.
Here are a few ideas your executive team and management team might want to consider for your employee base.
- Unsick Days
- Unlimited Vacation Days
- Days off for Charity
OK, so what do these 5 ideas really mean. I’ll explain what I have heard a growing number of companies are doing according the The Hartford.
You have probably heard of maternity and patnerity benefits for new parents where they can take time off work to bond with their new child. How about paid time off for when you have a new puppy???? Yep, they are doing this.
This is increasingly popular with companies that employ dog-lovers. I can also see this as needed as house-training a puppy is exhausting and somewhat messy.
This is time off that is to be used for personal objectives – like dentist appointments, doctors, maintenance visits, etc.
This seems to encourage people who receive this benefit. I would assume they felt like their employer cared about their balance and well-being.
Unlimited Vacation Days
The employees reading this are thinking – YES, I want that. The employers who are reading this, might be leery still.
Most companies laugh at the thought of this as it might be difficult to figure vacation liabilities and such. What if it did work? Have you ever planned a vacation and you got more done before you were gone? What if employees were more productive, they cross-trained with others for coverage and they felt valued and appreciated so when they weren’t vacationing they were working? Something to consider.
Millennials prefer working for companies that are socially conscious and gives back to their community. A great way to demonstrate this is to give them a few days off to work at a charity of their choice.
Take a Sabbatical
Sabbaticals can help employees not get burnout, put things into focus and live a fuller more productive life. This perk could keep them loyal, happy and energized to come back to work.
Giving your employees flexible, balanced time to enjoy life can truly make the difference in if they want to work for your company.
Have a great day!
