Tips for Preparing Your Business for Winter
As the year begins to wind down, it is important to remember our responsibilities as small business owners and independent insurance agents this winter. We’ve discussed some holiday-specific preparations that you should consider taking in a previous blog post; however, there are a few more things you should think about during the winter months.
It’s Okay to Celebrate the Holidays
While many businesses are choosing to stay open through key holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas, it doesn’t mean that you have to. Many independent insurance agents close their office doors on winter holidays. If you know that your office will be closed for any reason, you should post a notice in advance so clients can plan ahead. Make sure to include this on your website and in your email signature.
Winterize Your Office
If you lease office space and are not sure about your responsibilities, ask your landlord if you are responsible for any winter preparations. You don’t want to find out at the last minute that you are expected to shovel snow or prepare the emergency kit.
Make Alternative Arrangements
During the winter months, you should have a backup plan in case you cannot get to the office on a workday. For some, this could be as simple as taking your laptop home with you each night. Remember that if roads are slick or you are snowed in, you need to put your safety first. Having a backup method of working allows you to ensure that your clients are taken care of, even if you are unable to get to the office.
