Tis the season for kids to go back to school – and to get sick. Here are a few tips to keep your kids healthy while school is in session.

Watch What They Eat

Diet can make all the difference in a child’s health. In order to get the necessary vitamins they need, be sure to pack colorful fruits and vegetables in their lunch. Keep them hydrated, but avoid letting them drink soda. Kids will be able to stay fuller longer if they eat whole grains rather than white bread or sugary cereals. Don’t forget to give them bone-strengthening dairy in the form of yogurt or milk, as well.

Sleep Tight

Having a set schedule during the day will allow your kids to get into bed on time and get the rest they need. In order to stay sufficiently energized during the day, elementary students need 10 to 11 hours of sleep a night.

An Active Body is an Active Mind

In order to get your child’s brain functioning at its best, your child needs to be getting plenty of exercise. Though your child may have gym class at school, let them play for an hour before sitting down to do their homework. Or if it’s easier, let them take short breaks to get up and do some jumping jacks while they’re studying.

Prevent Illness
