Without customers, your business will fail. It’s something every entrepreneur, and businessperson, knows, yet for whatever reason, many first-time entrepreneurs and startups don’t spend nearly enough time acquiring customers. Customer acquisition is the lifeblood of any successful business.
It costs money to acquire new customers, so make sure you do your research on the best way to reach your target audience. Don’t just throw money away on advertisements without finding out what your customers are reading, watching, or searching for online. Call it ads, pay per click, blogs, social media; where are your clients “hanging out?”
Speaking of ads, this is probably a good time to tell you that no one wants to be interrupted by pop-ups, spam email or TV commercials anymore if they ever did. As a consumer yourself, you probably know this. We look forward to Superbowl Ads, yeah, maybe. But when we’re streaming our favorite shows on our chosen paid services.
There’s a reason On Demand and subscriptions are increasingly popular; as they allow customers to avoid advertisements or install ad-blocking. So, unless you have the trillion dollars to spend on a Super Bowl ad starring Kanye, Jennifer Lawrence, a Clydesdale, and a puppy, then we suggest you start looking at other ways to get the word out about your product or services.
Use an inbound marketing strategy to acquire new customers
So, instead of outdated and annoying TV commercials and internet ads, start reaching out to your clients via social media and great online content. Find out what your customers are talking about, interested in, searching for, etc. and then be their online expert or source of information.
You should already be fairly well versed on the likes and dislikes of your customers when you tested and analyzed your business idea, so now it’s time to draw your customers in by engaging them in an online dialogue.
Content marketing via your website, blog, and social media will take time to be effective, but if you are consistent with your content and you provide a shared space where your customers love to hang out, then in time you will be able to milk that connection for all that it is worth. What you are hoping will happen is that each new customer will act as a spokesperson for your product, inviting their friends, who invite their friends, and so on.
You also need to make sure that each of your customers continue to visit your site and use your product. It’s easy to get distracted when you are searching around online, so once you acquire an organic hit on our website, make sure that that person can subscribe to your content. That way you don’t have to hope that that person remembers your site next time they are online, you can gently remind them and send them new content as it happens.
You don’t have to be an SEO or content marketing expert; you just need to talk to one or do some research. Finding out how to interact with your potential customers is your greatest tool for a successful business.
