The holiday season is a great time of the year.  Unfortunately, it can also be the most expensive time of the year.  Between the presents, decorations, feasts, travels, and heating bills, some people may find it difficult to appreciate the full splendor of the season.  Don’t let this happen to you!  Here are some fun, holiday traditions that are easy on the wallet!

Homemade Decorations

Not only are homemade decorations affordable and unique, but they are a great way for your family to spend time together.  Activities as simple as cutting out paper snowflakes and stringing popcorn can create priceless memories and beloved family traditions.

Play Tourist

Pretend to be a tourist rolling into your hometown and discover what fun holiday adventures are open to you.  Most towns hold holiday markets, festivals, and celebrations.  Take advantage of the professional, free, and fun holiday experiences the city put together just for you!

Visit Santa

hot-cocoaThere are Santas everywhere!  (Shhh!  Don’t tell the kids!)  Make it a tradition to visit Santa, sit on his lap, and tell him your Christmas wishes.  Adults can do it too.  No shame there!

Put on a Family Pageant

Playing out the Nativity or another holiday story can be a fun way to preserve the traditional side of Christmas.  Kids will love dressing up and riding on Dad’s back (who is the donkey of course) year after year.

Story Time

Gather around the fireplace (or a bunch of candles) with hot cocoa, cookies, and a good Christmas story.  This is a timeless, cozy, and beloved Christmas activity that celebrates families, good cheer, and the holiday spirit!
