Renters Insurance 101
If you are planning on moving to downtown Denver you may be moving into an apartment. Most apartments require their tenants to purchase renters insurance.

Property
Your belonging should be protected from: Fire, Wind, Hail, Explosions, Riots, Aircraft, Vehicles, Smoke, Vandalism/Mischief, Theft, Falling Objects, Weight of Snow/Ice, and others. Renters insurance covers your belongings for these perils. Liability
The personal liability section of your renter’s insurance policy protects you from someone suing you for bodily injury or property damage that you may have caused. Renters Insurance
You may think that the landlord has insurance on his property, since he owns it. It is a good assumption. Your landlord probably does have insurance but it usually only covers his property such as the building. You and your belongings will not be covered unless you have a renter’s insurance policy. This type of insurance usually costs about $15-$20 month and could open up discounts on your auto policy if you have your renters insurance and auto insurance at the same company.
